Weleda joins B Corp Beauty Coalition
Weleda is pleased to announce the appointment of Jayn Sterland, managing director of Weleda UK, to the board of the new B Corp Beauty Coalition.
Following its recent B Corp certification, Weleda has joined the newly formed international B Corp Beauty Coalition. The B Corp Beauty mission is to improve the social and environmental impacts of business practices in the beauty industry, through knowledge sharing and responsible innovation, with consistent and transparent communication.
Weleda, pioneering green beauty since 1921, brings to the table a century of expertise as the leading manufacturer of certified natural and organic cosmetics, as well as in the ethical sourcing of sustainable ingredients.
Improving sustainability standards in the cosmetics industry
The new B Corp Beauty Coalition brings together over 35 leading cosmetics firms from all around the globe, to improve sustainability standards in the beauty industry. Forming the Coalition will enable them to leverage their combined strengths and deliver tangible benefits to beauty consumers, communities, and the planet we share.
B Corps are part of an international movement of companies that do business in a meaningful way, with the highest standards of social and environmental impact and values anchored in their corporate bylaws. Through solid engagement, collaboration and coalition, they seek to improve social and environmental conditions along the supply chain, from raw materials to the finished product. The members of the Beauty Coalition envision a new approach to beauty that prioritises soil as much as skin. The coalition’s vision is to deliver “Beauty for Good”.
Jayn Sterland represents Weleda
Jayn Sterland, managing director of Weleda UK, will represent Weleda in the Beauty Coalition as a board member:“I am delighted to represent Weleda as part of the global B Corp Beauty Coalition, which aims to unite B Corp-certified companies through coalition as a force for good.”, says Jayn Sterland. “With Weleda’s expertise in creating pioneering natural beauty for over a hundred years, we hope to be able to share this wisdom and support others through this global initiative. It is only by working in harmony with and through nature, that beauty can become truly sustainable.”
The Coalition will focus on four key issues: ingredient sourcing and sustainability; greener logistics; packaging responsibility; consistent and clear external messaging that customers can understand and trust.
B Corp: Business as a force for good
Weleda achieved B Corp certification in 2021, its centennial year. Certification is awarded to companies that do business in a meaningful way, and which meet the highest verified standards for social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. The focus is on social added value and ecological sustainability - the environment, species protection, human rights, climate protection, employees, and customers. B Corp stands for ‘business as a force for good’, and not maximising profits at any price.
