Weleda today
Weleda - a pioneer and a world-leading manufacturer of holistic natural cosmetics and anthroposophical medicines which bring people healing, well-being and vitality.
Weleda’s three main sites are close together, with our headquarters in Arlesheim, Switzerland just a few kilometres from the Weleda site in Huningue, France. The production operation in Schwäbisch Gmünd near Stuttgart is just 250 kilometres north-east in Germany.
These three sites see the processing of most of the 1,000 natural, sustainably produced raw materials for Weleda products. More than 100 natural cosmetics products, 10 dietetics and around 2,500 medicines are also created here.
The highest quality standards and meticulous use of resources go hand-in-hand as we manufacture our products. About 78 percent of the raw materials come from organic or biodynamic farming and from controlled wild collection. All the products are based purely on natural substances – artificial preservatives and dyes are consistently avoided. Weleda enjoys a great business reputation for quality, trust and a sustainable business development.
Weleda consists of 19 majority shareholders and the company employs approximately 2,000 people worldwide. About 40 percent of the capital and about 80 percent of the voting rights of the Weleda AG are owned by two major shareholders, the General Anthroposophical Society (AAG, Dornach, Switzerland) and the Arlesheim Clinic (KA, Arlesheim, Switzerland), formerly Ita Wegman Klinik AG. The remaining registered shares and the non-voting participation certificates are in free float. Only members of the AAG are eligible for registration in the share register. In sales terms Weleda can be found in more than 50 countries on all continents.
Since the company’s founding in 1921, Weleda has been acting socially, environmentally and economically responsibly in all its business operations from the procurement of raw materials to the manufacture of cosmetic and pharmaceutical products, packaging and distribution.
Weleda also grows medicinal plants and runs its own tincture production facility, where there is further processing of raw materials through distillation, extraction or potentising. Although some of our methods have changed over time, we have always been true to ourselves, our founders and our values. Socially, environmentally and economically we have operate on the same principles since founding. We truly believe that it is this consistency which makes a positive difference to the world.
